High Roller Casinos Online
Let’s take a look at one of the most misused claims in the online casino industry – the so called high roller casino. You have no doubt noticed that many casinos offer what they (sometimes irresponsibly) a high roller casino bonus. These are typically a lower percentage bonus with a higher maximum, say, 30% up to $300.
There is no doubt that online casinos want large players – for obvious reasons. However, the vast majority of them do not really cater for the so called “high roller” (I have even seen some online casinos and portals talking about “whales”. Frankly, I would rather be called an ostrich or a monkey than a whale but that’s a personal thing). So, let’s stop talking about high rollers and talk about the things “bigger players”, and by that I mean those who want to play larger wagers and obviously deposit larger amounts, would look for in an online casino.
An online casino that claims they cater for larger players should at least have the following in place:
- Higher table limits than the norm. For instance: most Microgaming casinos are configured to allow a $100 max bet per hand on standard single blackjack. There are however operators that allow up to $300 per hand, allowing the player to bet across a larger spread and take bigger risks (obviously with higher rewards). The same goes for slots. Some casinos will configure the same slot machine to a maximum coin size of 50 cents whilst others will cater for a coin size up to $2, or even $5 in some cases (with slot games like Microgaming Thunderstruck and Big Kahuna). In short, a casino that makes a claim that it caters for high rollers should at least appear to do so.
- Special comp club / VIP levels for big players. Let’s face it, all players were not created equal, and the rewards system at th casino should reflect that. Again, a casino that claims to offer high roller services should offer special comp point structures, cash back bonuses and privileges for bigger players.
- Configurable table / betting limits. Some online casino will offer certain players special betting limits on specific games. Needless to say, they will only do so if they are comfortable with the credibility of the player. I have seen cases where a bigger player gets upset with a casino when they wouldn’t give him $1000 per hand blackjack from day one. Expect some due diligence to take place. Remember, it’s a two way street – no online casino should be expected to bend over backwards for anyone and his dog.
- Line of Credit – which happens very infrequently, and will only be granted to players with a long standing history at the online casino. In my days of working for an online casino operation one of the most amusing things was when we received an email from Joe Bloggs telling us what a big player he was and asking for a $10K credit limit. Expect the casino to suggest you visit Disney.com and buy yourself an annual membership to Disneyland (please don’t be offended if they do).
- And finally, casino bonuses. Personally I am not the biggest fan of online casino bonuses but the have a place when used wisely and responsibly. I always tell people to take extreme care when claiming bonuses, especially the larger, complimentary ones. Take a very careful look and you will often see very high wagering requirements and ludicrous withdrawal conditions. I have received numerous complaints from players who deposited large amounts, claimed bonuses, won and had trouble cashing in. They were obviously upset, but had they read the terms they would either not have claimed the bonus or would not even have chosen the casino in the first place.
